About Me

Brett Baynes.JPG

I grew up just south of Leduc in Wetaskiwin, and am very grateful to the family, friends coaches, and teachers that have contributed to help shape the opportunities I’ve had in my life.

In academic pursuits I am proud to say that I achieved honors from high school, Bachelor of Science and my Doctorate of Chiropractic.  While maintaining academic excellence, I was a three sport collegiate athlete in soccer, hockey, and rugby and worked part time jobs to help pay my way through school. The smartest thing I have done though, is marry my loving wife and business partner Trina Baynes.

We met while attending Graduate school in the USA.  Together, we started our business in Leduc in 2007 and have been happily serving Leduc ever since.  I have been a proud citizen of Leduc for 16 years and a local business owner for the past 18 years. We built our business in Leduc even before we moved here because we saw Leduc as a place we not only wanted to live but believed it would be a place our future kids would want to live too. Unfortunately, life doesn’t always work out the way we want and we were unable to have children so instead we continued to invest in our extended family, Leduc!

Fostered from a young age by my parents, I have always had a heart to serve others. I grew up in a family that had little, but it never felt that way. Giving back was always part of our family.  Although we couldn’t always give financially, we always gave back to the organizations and communities that helped us.  We would volunteer at our local food bank, clean the church we attended, and help wherever we could in our community.

During my 18 years in Leduc, my wife and I have actively served and supported a wide range of nonprofit and local organizations. Through this time, I’ve dedicated countless hours to volunteering and contributing to our community—experience that I believe will serve me well on City Council.

My involvement spans numerous organizations and roles, including:

  • 17 years with Boys and Girls Club, including 8 years as President and 5 years as Vice President.

  • 14 years volunteering as team trainer and team doctor for the Leduc Riggers.

  • 6 years running Toasty Toes and Underclothes, collecting underwear and socks for our unhoused population.

  • 2 years with City Life Youth as a youth leader.

  • 5 years at the Leduc County Christmas Lights.

  • 6 years running a soccer team in the Adult Coed Soccer League.

  • 10 years volunteering for the Black Gold Rodeo Association.

These opportunities have given me a deep understanding of our community’s needs, challenges, and strengths. The knowledge and skills I’ve gained are priceless, and I am excited to bring this experience with me as I serve on Leduc County Council.

Together with my professional and academic background, these experiences make me a strong candidate to represent you. I look forward to taking everything I’ve learned over the past 18 years and continuing my community service at the next level.

Experience and Vision for Change

My goal is to release my full platform in September.  Why the delay? I want to leave time for community consultation and feedback. Below you will find the early shaping of what I think are important issues currently, but I would love your feedback.

Business Leader

My wife Trina and I started our business in Leduc in 2007. We have successfully grown our business to over 10 employees winning both Small Business of the Year and Large Business of the Year. In 2021 we outgrew our existing space and purchased our own commercial space. We have mentored numerous local professionals strengthening our local health services.

Our success in Leduc has not only been professionally but also in our not for profit work.  In 2008 I joined the Leduc Boys and Girls Club where I was named President as there was nobody else willing to do the job.  Trina and I quickly moved The Boys and Girls Club of Leduc  from a position of folding to a position of excellence.  During our time we helped move the club from an old outdated house to the LRC, restructure the governance and support staff to improve outcomes in order to increase the value to our community.

After 17 years working with the Boys and Girls Club of Leduc I can confidently say that they are in the best position they have ever been.

My experience volunteering on several not for profit boards has provided extensive business experience including leadership, management, financials + budgeting, policies and procedures and so much more.
